Hello,
Let's hope the weather cooperates a little better this week!  It was an odd week last week!

Valentines Day: You will be receiving a letter today with information about our Valentine’s Celebration. We will celebrate the afternoon of Thursday, February 14th. Let me know if you have an questions.

Field Trip: Reminder if you have not sent the field trip form back for next Monday, please do so as soon as possible. If you volunteered to be a chaperone you will be receiving an email shortly.

Reading: In reading this week we are working on visualizing our stories. We will make “movies” in our mind of what is happening in our story. We will also work on a few more comprehension strategies. We will keep track of who is reading in our stories and learn how to understand new vocabulary words.

Writing: In writing this week we are continuing to write reviews! We will be doing some partner work and help each other with writing checkups. We will also start organizing our reviews into categories to share them with the class. We will then end the week with starting book reviews.

Math: In math this week we will continue our work with the bead racks and number combinations to 20.  We are working on using strategies like make a ten, doubles plus one or two.

Science: In science we will be exploring light and sound through centers.  We will be using the iPads, reading books, making artwork that is translucent, and creating our own instruments.

Hello, Wow! We have some busy weeks ahead for first grade! Thank you for your organization with paperwork that has come home. November 5-9

Hello, This Thursday and next Tuesday we will have our portfolio conferences. I am excited to share what students have been working on! We encourage the students to attend to give an opportunity to take pride in their work. Please let me know if you have any questions. We will learn about using word parts they know to read new words, learn about “unusual” words (contractions), and smooth out our reading. On Thursday we will celebrate the end of our unit with a special surprise from our detective agency. Then at the end of the week we will talk about reorganizing our library. Hello! Hello! We are learning our routines in first grade quickly and it has been fun getting to know everyone with student of the day.  If your child hasn’t brought home a paper bag yet, their day will be coming soon! Thank you for checking planners each night! Red family night forms went home last week and are due back on Wednesday.
